Heartland Son is the story of an emotionally abused, spiritually void man who lives his life on the brink of personal destruction.
No matter how many years roll by, the ghosts of the past are never far behind.
Ten years ago, Charlie "Champ" Hannen (Richard Archer) was the star quarterback in his small Iowa town, with the bright prospect of a college scholarship. Over the next decade, his life spiraled into a habit of drinking, womanizing, and a daily war of words with his abusive father (Stephen G. Black).
Upon the death of Champ's father, rivalries old and new rise to the surface as the future of the farm comes into question.
Should Champ sell the land to an oil prospector for more than the farm is worth? Should he skip town with his married girlfriend, Sadie (Jaime Luchuck)? Or should he stay on the farm and honour a vanishing way of life?
Haunted by painful memories of the past, Champ must chart a new course. But only if he can confront the demons of the past, can he heal the wounds of the present.
Jeremy Major directs this festival flick about unloved souls who are emotionally wounded and scarred by years of family miscommunication.
