Short Film to Hit Classrooms
FEBRUARY 2010 | Shooting Eye's award-winning short film, Service, has just been licensed by publisher Pearson Education Canada for use as part of an educational digital text book that will be used in school classrooms. Kinda cool, eh? Service is the story of three young adults struggling with the loss of a close friend to the brutality of war overseas. It will now serve as an educational tool - something the filmmakers are delighted to see as the very nature of the film was designed to provoke discussion.
The short film was originally produced for Hamilton's 24-Hour Film Festival in 2009 under strict competition guidelines. The film was required to include a festival-specified line of dialogue, prop, and location and be entirely created, shot, and edited within the event's 24-hour time limit in early May. Not only did it win first place but it also took best cinematography. Produced and directed by Jeremy Major and Aaron Lam, the film starred Matthew David Lupal, Nicolette Paradela, and Brad Young. What made this creative process even more unique is that everyone on the team also shared in the writing, including sound recordist Murray Major and contributors Kelly Carney and Crystal Paquette.
